LBC Highest Death Rate reported in England & Wales for almost fifity years
Speaking to Nick Ferrari on LBC, Julia Manning, Chief Executive of 2020health, commented that although the figures from the Office of National Statistics are provisional they should most certainly be ringing alarm bells. Julia suggested that the reasons behind the increase were a toxic mix of cuts to mental health services (mental health patients have a life expectancy of 15/20yrs lower than the national average) and social care (over 8,000 patients per day cannot be discharged from hospital due to their home circumstances), alongside the increase in obesity rates and liver disease. She pointed out that loneliness and isolation are a key factor in poor health for the elderly, mentally ill and vulnerable, and referenced how the Prime Minister's mother had recently signed a petition about cuts to services in her area. Julia believes the public need to be made aware of the actual cost of services and consulted on how they should be funded.
