Sky News Mental Health Boost For Emergency Services

Mental Health Boost For Emergency Services

Emergency service workers who experience depression and mental health problems will be offered support under a new pilot scheme.

Julia Manning commented: “We are delighted that the government are giving more resources to those at the emergency services front-line to support their health and wellbeing. It’s hard to say that you are feeling depressed, stress or anxiety and for it to be recognised as important and substantial as someone needing time off for the ‘flu or back pain or a new diagnosis of diabetes for instance. It will help further if we drop the generalising about “mental health” and start being more specific in our terminology, talking about depression or anxiety as conditions. Continuing to use the term ‘mental’ conjures up images of someone being mad, sad or bad, not genuinely ill. We hope that this support will extend to staff in A&E.” read on Mental Health Boost For Emergency Services
