Julia Manning, Chief Executive spoke to John Warnett on BBC Radio Kent Breakfast about the costs incurred to the NHS by Health Tourists. In Kent alone, four hospital trusts are currently owed 1.3million. The government are apparently considering several options to lower the costs of health tourism. Julia said that as there is major cost cutting across the NHS this is one area where a simple solution could be effective, charging international patients upfront. She pointed out that as this is standard procedure in most other countries it would be reasonable to facilitate and for international patients to expect this.
