BBC News Government Obesity Strategy

Cllr Robin Millar, Acting CEO for 2020health (July-August 2016) spoke on BBC News in response to criticisms of the government childhood obesity strategy being too watered down and a disappointment. Robin said the government could have gone further but what is important, is the shift in policy. This is the government changing its approach and starting to recognise obesity is a shared responsibility and cannot be handled by the government alone. He mentioned that although a sugar tax and ban on advertising are sensible measures they are not going to solve the problem, as choices linked to obesity are made long before public services get involved.
