Background:

2020health is undertaking research into depression and related topics with the prime focus on the issue of parity of esteem. We are reviewing the prevalence of depression, its treatment and the costs of depression (social/financial) to the NHS and wider society.

As part of this review we are comparing provision for common mental illness with physical illnesses, touching also on comorbidities and holistic care. We will be asking what this means for NICE appraisals of treatment for mental illness, bearing in mind affordability and incentivising innovation in mental health.

The roundtable event will have a special focus on depression at work:

• Absenteeism/Presenteeism: social costs; costs to NHS/industry/the wider economy.
• How should industry be encouraged to give equal respect to physical and mental illness?
• Learning and best practice around prevention and early intervention in the workplace.
