Exploring the impact of diet on our health and how we manage the ‘obesity epidemic’ is the subject of much debate today. The implications for our health services both today and in the future requires urgent action if we are to prevent an increase in personal ill health and the resulting economic impact on the state.

There are numerous research papers describing what constitutes a healthy diet, describing good foods and bad foods and detailing the effects they will have upon us. Yet despite all this information we still consume more foods than are good for us. What can we do, and what do we need to do to reverse the trend?
